Cold Box binding systems

Cold Box binding systems

ILARDUYA manufactures and markets all kind of most technologically-advanced cold box binders for foundry sand core shot manufacturing such as:

  • Amine-catalysed Phenol Urethane system (Gasharz / Activador)
  • Methyl formate-cured Alkaline Phenolic system (Resan)
  • CO2-cured Silicate (Koldex and Waselit)
  • CO2-cured Resol (Carbophen)
Currently the Phenol Urethane process is most widespread in automated production and Hüttenes Albertus' GASHARZ / ACTIVADOR products perfectly fit within it. Moreover, our ecological BIOdiesel and Ethyl Silicate systems provide significant technological advances to smelters.

BIOdiesel system

Traditional Cold Box Phenol Urethane systems contained a significant amount of aromatic solvents both in part 1 (phenolic resin) and part 2 (isocyanate) which implied many inconveniences (emissions, odours, low thermal strength...).

Huttenes-Albertus' patented Cold Box BIOdiesel system provides products using vegetable solvents.

Such novel products significantly contribute to environmental and technical issues such as:

  • Lower amine consumption.
  • Increased core thermal strength and reduced veining, erosion and scabbing defects.
  • Low odour and BTX (Benzene, Toluene and Xylene) emissions.

Ethyl Silicate system

It represents the most advanced Cold Box resins system and incorporates ecological low-odour ethyl silicate inorganic solvent. These resins have a low emission impact similar to that of the CO2-cured silicate process. Under thermal stress conditions, odour-free ethyl silicate undergoes partial transformation into highly thermally-stable amorphous SiO2. Further benefits include low BTX (Benzene, Toluene and Xilene) and vapour emissions, thus being especially appropriate for foundries close to urban areas.

In addition, the system provides perfectly clean stainless surfaces in aluminium sand casting industries.

Amine

ILARDUYA supplies dimethylethylamine (DMEA) and other tertiary amines for the Phenol Urethane process. Amine is delivered in containers tailored to foundry applications enabling safe use.
